The Atlas of Ordinary Things
Emotional Field Guides to the Inanimate World
Created by D. B. Stryker
Step into a world where the overlooked becomes luminous.
The Atlas of Ordinary Things is a multi‑volume literary project that reveals the emotional lives, wounds, and longings of the objects that surround us. Through museum‑grade monologues, atmospheric invocations, and field‑guide precision, each book uncovers the hidden interiority of the inanimate world — not as metaphor, but as literal emotional testimony.
Every volume explores a different environment:
-
Volume I: The Household — the quiet rooms that raised us
-
Volume II: Work Spaces — the tools and surfaces that hold our labor
-
And more to come
Each object speaks through a disciplined six‑part emotional arc, offering a voice shaped by its physical reality, its history, and its unspoken burdens. These monologues are not symbolic. They are not projections. They are field reports from the silent companions of our lives. The result is a reading experience that is intimate, uncanny, and unexpectedly tender — a reminder that meaning lives everywhere, even in the things we touch without thinking.
Whether you are a reader, educator, creator, or simply someone who senses that the world is more alive than it appears, this atlas invites you to listen more closely.
Welcome to the world of inanimate things.

Adventures of Ruff Barkington Series
Seven Books in the Series
Ruff Barkington & The Case of the Missing Biscuit Someone stole the last Barkford Biscuit — the crumbliest, most coveted treat in all the land. And Ruff Barkington, hound detective extraordinaire, isn’t about to let it go unsniffed. Armed with nothing but instinct, a magnifying bone, and a nose for trouble, Ruff pawtrols alleyways, interviews squirrel informants, and sniffs out secrets hidden beneath chew toy caches. But the deeper he digs, the more he realizes this case isn’t just about a snack... it’s about loyalty, legends, and the prophecy of the Biscroll. Will Ruff crack the crunchy code before Barkford crumbles into chaos?

The Case of the Missing Biscuit
In a neighborhood where every tennis ball hides a secret and every muddy pawprint might be a message, one dog dares to ask the chewy questions: What happened to Pickles? Who’s behind the squeaky floorboards? And why do the biscuits keep disappearing? This tale—tail, rather—grew from a simple idea: What if your backyard was more mysterious than you ever imagined? Ruff Barkington isn’t just a canine with a magnifying chew toy. He’s a loyal friend, an investigator of the ordinary, and a defender of truth beneath the hydrangeas. Following The Case of the Missing Biscuit, readers asked for more: more clues, more paw-scratched messages, and more daring escapes through hydrant burrows. Pawject Jailbreak answers with a biscuit-sized epic full of laughs, loyalty, and layered mysteries. May you read with nose to the wind and heart in the chase. —D.B. Stryker

Pawject Jailbreak
The Adventures of Detective Ruff Barkington & The Case of the Missing Mayor: Every city has its rhythms — the chime of the clock tower, the shuffle of paw-steps in the square, the hush just before a mayor speaks. But sometimes those rhythms go wrong. Sometimes the silence isn’t peace — it’s a puzzle. This story began with one such silence. Detective Ruff Barkington and the Case of the Missing Mayor isn’t just a mystery. It’s a celebration of listening hard, looking deeper, and believing your questions matter — even when the grown-ups stop answering them. In these pages, you’ll follow Ruff, a dog who trusts his nose more than a headline, and Peaches, his artistic partner-in-crime who sketches clues faster than a whistle can blow. They’ll uncover forgotten tunnels, bend through bureaucratic brush-offs, and chase spirals through rooftops and roots — all in pursuit of one disappearing pawprint. If you’ve ever felt something wasn’t quite right and wondered what would happen if you followed that feeling all the way to the truth… You’re in good company. Let’s begin. — D.B. Stryker

The Case of the Missing Mayor
The Great Muzzleford Caper – Book 3 in The Adventures of Detective Ruff Barkington. When Muzzleford’s prized Crown Collar vanishes moments before the annual parade, chaos ensues. Bunting flutters. Donuts fly. And Detective Ruff Barkington finds himself paw-deep in a mystery stickier than a treacle tart in summer. With kitten Scouts in tow and one very theatrical tabby juggling trouble, Ruff must sniff out a culprit hidden among confetti and crumbs. But this time, it’s more than just parade pride at stake—there’s talk of betrayal, secret tunnels beneath the biscuit cart, and a mysterious clue etched into a pancake. As Ruff digs deeper, he uncovers a caper so grand it threatens to unhinge Muzzleford’s cozy charm forever. The clues are stacked. The collar is missing. And somewhere nearby... a shadow watches.

The Great Muzzleford Caper
Detective Ruff Barkington & The Crumbs of Suspicion: There’s something timeless about a good mystery. Not the kind filled with gloom and stormy nights—but the sort stirred gently with jam jars, cookie crumbs, and a clever pup who trusts his nose more than a map. Detective Ruff Barkington & The Crumbs of Suspicion began with one simple idea: What if the world’s sharpest snack detective lived in a town where every clue was edible? From that seed grew Biscuitville—a cozy place filled with charm, laughter, and just enough sprinkle-fueled drama to keep readers turning pages long past bedtime. This story was crafted for young minds who love asking questions, solving puzzles, and believing that sometimes the most important clues are the ones we almost overlook. Whether you’re a first-time reader or a lifelong mystery fan, Ruff invites you to sniff out secrets, follow your curiosity, and never underestimate the power of a well-timed cookie. So grab your magnifying glass and settle in. The trail begins here.

The Crumbs of Suspicion
Can one collar, stitched with forgotten song, unravel the secrets of a town that’s quietly beginning to remember? Detective Ruff Barkington, Biscuitville’s beloved bow tie–wearing sleuth, isn’t your average mystery solver. With a pipe puffing vanilla-scented clues and a magnifying glass that’s seen its fair share of biscuit crumbs, Ruff’s never met a case he couldn’t solve—until now. When a collar mysteriously appears beneath the Bellflower Bush, carrying faded notes and the name Crooner McSnout, Ruff is pulled into a musical trail scattered across Biscuitville’s coziest corners: the Music Box Museum, Whistlepost Bakery, the Fountain of Floofs, and a library where even the whispers leave bookmarks. But this isn’t just a hunt for a missing harmonica—it’s a lullaby stitched through memory, friendship, and the kind of mystery only young sleuths can fully appreciate. Alongside the ever-curious Muffin and a cast of charming neighbors, Ruff must decode verses hidden in cookie crumbs and stone fountains, reconnect a town with its forgotten melody, and maybe—just maybe—remind Biscuitville how to feel again. Warm, whimsical, and tuned for readers ages 7 and up, The Adventures of Detective Ruff Barkington & The Mystery of the Crooner’s Collar is a cozy chapter book filled with heart, gentle suspense, and musical clues that linger long after the final whistle.
